Homeowners Affordability Tax Credit

Homeowners Affordability Tax Credit

The Manitoba Government has extended the deadline to register your primary residence for the Homeowners Affordability Tax Credit (HATC).

This Tax Credit is replacing the Education Property Tax Credit (EPTCA) and offers up to $1,500.00, or the total education taxes on your property whichever is less.

If you received the EPTCA in 2024 and there has been no change in ownership of your property, you will automatically receive the HATC on your tax bill.

These are the eligibility requirements for HATC:

  • You are the registered property owner
  • The property is assessed as a single dwelling residential unit
  • The property is your principal residence
  • Neither you nor your spouse are receiving this credit on any other property in Manitoba

If you are unsure if you qualify or will be receiving this credit, you can contact the Municipal office during regular business hours Monday – Friday from 8:30 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm.

For more information on the HATC, visit https://www.gov.mb.ca/finance/tao/hatc.html or call 1-866-626-4862

If the HATC is not received on the current year’s property tax bill, the credit may be claimed via personal income tax return.
